Personal grooming session at Dell

I attended a personal grooming session held by WISE, (women in search of excellent) Dell Malaysia. It was interesting to find out that Dell has such an initiative to retain, help, built and growth ladies employees. So one of the many activities that they are currently or will be doing is this grooming session. During the session, the presenter tought us how to increase our face value, how to make yourself looks more professional, how to walk and stand so that it will looks professional and so on. I would like to share with you some interesting tips that i learnt from the workshop. I guess we all know that in the makeup, the most important part is our eyes. She suggested that for those single eyelid, small eye ladies, eyeliner is a must and it is more important than the mascara. Also, when we draw our eyebrow, the tail cannot be lower than the head of the eyebrow. And the higher the peak of the eyebrow is, the more power or authority shown in you. The right hair-do also make you looks either professional or not. She teaches us a few quick ways to make a sanggul. First, use a rubber band and tide a pony tail, then find a hole either on the top-center or bottom-center, then push the pony tail inside it and finally use a nice hair clip to clip on it. That's it - a nice and professional looks is done wihtin few minutes.

It's great to find out that in Dell, they are serious about building and growing ladies leaders :)

My first paycheck

After close to one year of unemployed, I was thrilled to get my first paycheck! It feels so awesome especially with the sign on bonus, feel like going out for a crazy shopping this weekend, hehehe..
Being able to give my parents more money is another great feeling that i used to have and now regain it back. There is always give and take in life. When we were busy working, eaning for life, we complain that we dont have much time to spent with families...and when we do have the luxury to spent times with family, we dont feel secure with little or no saving. I felt that i have made the right decision to take a one year off. This has made me really appreciate my life and time even more. I dont complaint about work like what i used to, i cherish those moment spent with friends and family even more, I learnt to see thing from many aspect and the most importantly - I feel ALIVE again!!!

Worst ever traffic jam i ever had

When I was writing this post, I was sitting at Dave Deli's Queensbay mall waiting for the traffic to be cleared. It tooked me 1.5hours to reach queensbay mall from my company which is only 3 or 4km away. Can you believe that? I couldn't believe it myself! I heard from the radio station that there is some stupid accident on the bridge again. I was starving and nature was calling. So i make the right choice to stop by the mall for food and toilet. :) Furthermore I can facebooking and blogging at the restaurant, so nice, isn't it? Felt that the food was really good or maybe just because I was too hungry, hehe...
I wonder what time I will reach home tonight, I hope my hubby can handle kai shuen cause sometime during sleeptime, she will become very fuzzy.
Working is not as tired compare to driving to work and I sleep around 9.30pm every night these day :-(

Token of appreciation from Intel

My husband work in Intel. The other day, I received a post package for him. When I open it up, I realised that it was a gift from intel for my husband. It feel great to have received a token of appreciation from the company you work for though my husband don't really seem excited about it :)
I remember i even received a thank you card from intel, thanking me for being an understanding wife to a husband who is Intel's employee and with my support, my husband can work with less worry about family matters (something like that, i cant really remember the actual content). I felt touched when i received the card. No wonder my husband can work in Intel for more than 13years. :)

Things to be follow....

Good things so follow by others. Here is an example where i think others MNC should follow...Inel gave away 2 free movie ticket and 2 RM10 KFC voucher to all his employees as an appreciation for the great quaters....

The big fly

There is this huge fly in my office that annoyed me so mcuh. I really really cannot tahan it. Dont think that it is my problem, it is not because it has got so many enemy in the office as well. ;)

It really test my limit, i think one day, i might killed it accidentally :P But u know what, fly are very stubborn insect, they cant be killed so easily, and could emerge stronger over time.

Really dont understand why it can survived.....

It has been a month's time...

It has been a while since my last blog. Too busy recently after taking up the new role. But i am really glad of the new job. I am much happier now compare to last year. Feel so motivated, excited about my job. Very bless to get this opportunity after returning from my maternity leave, i am really really blessed :)
Other than there is a "BIG BEE" at my working environement, always buzzing around my ear :), the rest are all ok. I am giving myself one year's time to be promoted to next level, this is my short term goal. Long term goal, I still want to develop my own career :)

Oh, another short term goal, to invest in mutual fund and learn forex trading :)

Is a new start

Today, i receive a pat on my shoulder...it has been long i never receive such a compliment. Sometimes it is so easy to make a person's day by saying thank you or good job but still many are reluctant or stingy to say it out!

Remind yourself to praise people at the right time, it might create a happier community to live in....

Why there is people who like to make other's life difficult??

There is so many different type of peoples in this world, and one of the kind that i hate most are those who like to make other people's life difficult.
Especially those who have authority, they can simply request to cancel your meeting at last minute, or asking you to change the meeting time few minutes prior to your meeting, or simply change the approval decision-----all this make the life of the execution people miserable.
I hope one day those people will kena and learnt their lesson, then improve themselves :)

Work culture

I read on an article and find this interesting. Thought to share in my blog...

Good managers solved problems, Lousy managers avoid solving problems...

After so many year working in the factory, i had sort of understand normally how the managers will react or work on certain issues. There is good managers and lousy managers. Of course good managers are hard to find or maybe i am so unlucky that i always meet with lousy managers.
There is a huge percentage of managers are classified as lousy managers in my company.
You may ask me why i say they are lousy managers? what did they do wrong??? Well, that is the problem, they dint do anything wrong, the only thing which is wrong is because they try to keep quiet and do nothing...trying to avoid solving the problem once and for all.
IF you cant understand what i mean, congratulation, that means you havent meet a lousy manager yet :)

Crucial Conversation

Last week i attended a 2-days course called "Crucial Conversation" founded by Vital Smarts. I thought it was pretty good and i thus would like to share with all here.
It was a course whereby it talks about the needs for 2 individual to get into crucial conversation when the stake is high and how to spot them, how to start the CC, what is the method and so on.

There is one teaching in this course that shifted my mindset which is what i am going to elaborate here. It says something like this "there is no one in this world that can make you mad, it is the way how you interpret the message that did". Think about it, how true is it, isn't it?

We always say that this person, that person is so irritating...but then he still got people like him, he got his beloved wife, family, or friends also. Why don't they also think he is irritating?
IF we shifted our mindset a little bit and always interpret his message a little bit possitively, then you might find that he is not so annoying anyway :)
Well it is always easy to say then do but i think if we can try to practice it frequnetly, we might not get emotianol or get upset by other easily which really dont worth it!

雨过晴天。。。

After a few weeks since the first anouncement by our CEO, finally we have known our faith. This round we were luck as we are save from the work force management exercise and i still stay with my current jobs, no role changes or extra work for me, which is a good news.
Anyway, i feel sorry for those who has to leave but was not prepared. I really hope that the situation will get better with our order increase back to a certain level very soon. However, i have no answer how can we turn over the situation and capturing more order in such an economy situation. Things might continue to get worst and could it be another round of WFM or sold off of some of the division? this are all the possible trends if order keep going down.

Same old quote i like to use "Prepared for the worst and hope for the best", this is what we can do right now :)

2700 Job Cut :(

I really cant accept the fact that in such an economy turnmoil, Management still insist to maintain the 21% ROIC, so selfish :(
If i am the unlucky one to be choosen, I dont think i can find a new job now as i am pregnant. Never mind lor, just take 1 year rest then :)
Life still go on, isnt it? So, be happy!!!

Always say YES

A few days ago, i was chatting to an ex-colleague. He tought me what to do during this economy bad time. Always show that you are busy in front of your boss, always say YES, always propose new idea even though we know that we have no budget for most of the new projects. And when the good time come and you are not happy, just say bye bye to your boss. Haha...very interesting isnt it? However this is what people really are doing and i can see it among my colleague. What to do, some colleague has family, kids, wife who are not working and they need the job more than me or you :)
But the funny thing is, my colleague who gave me all this advise, he himself is not this type of person and he wont do all that stuff he mention himself....hahaha...funny isnt it?
Well, i just told him at the end of our conversation that, dont follow others, just be who you are or what you wanted to do, dont force yourself to do something that you will feel shame on in the future. Be happy and stay hardworking as usual.... :)

Yippie...the bad rumor die off..

Last week there is a rumor saying that our company is going to impose another 10% more pay cut and it make us all feel so nervous and worried.
Luckily it was been clarified at the coffee talk today by our GM, confirming that this is just a rumor at this moment. Of course he cant commit that things wont changed if the situation got worst than 2X or more from our current estimation.

Anyway, i feel glad that at least the rumor is not true which hardly happen to my company :)

Still about the pay cut..

The 5% pay reduction is only applied to admins and operators, not as what i thought and mention in my previous blog. Anyway, a little good new is that we can take 2 days off every month as the compensation for the pay reduction (equal to 10% pay reduction). Even though some of us might still need to work during the off day as the work load has been kept increasing
:( but at least we can work from home and not full day lor, better than nothing.
I was trying to be positive by thinking that this might me a good chance for me to do my own stuff, to think of what i want to do in future, or to learn some new things to improve myself...or to do some partime job that might increased my salary to more than this 10%reduction...hahaha....Have to learn to think positive mah, isn't it?
开心是一天，不开心日子还是一样要过，不是吗？

The day has finally came..

I never thought that this day will come so soon, much sooner than what i expected. Pay cut of 10% for expert level and above or 5% for lower level employees. Since the no increment announcement, i was expecting that worst will come but i thought it could be happened in mid next year only. The bad new come sooner than i expected and it does surprised me. Of course i was sad and angry too. I think that the CEO is too much! Our company is still doing good and profitable, he shouldn't that this move now as one of the precaution. He can cut those temporary headcount first and continue with tight budget control and travel expenses cut, but he dint and he had choosen a move that will impact hundred thousand of peoples....Even though i am sad, but what can I do? :(

Surviving skill at workplace

Today i had learnt a very good lesson from a colleague of mine- surviving skill in corporate world. He is younger than me but he had gone through much more "tuff" experience than me. I am really thankful to have him around :)
I dont know how to share what we have discuss in my blog but i can summarised it here for all to cherrish :
Always find a backup to protect yourself when those things that management ask you to do (which you know that it is the worst decision they are making..) did not turn up to be as per their expectation. If not, it will come back to haunt you. Most of the time managment have a bad memory (maybe because they are old d? :)), they might potentially forgot that the decision was make by them and tends to think that the executor (which is you...) should be of the blame.
Welcome to the cruel corporate world, believe it or not? Believe it!

Good emotional control

I'm very proud of myself today as i had managed to control my anger. I was so pissed on some issue and was about to write a bad email response. After i had finished writing, i take a a few deep breath and finally i deleted those anger lines before i sent out the email.
What an achievement for the day...hahaha...does it sound too much? Well, i guess i had learn to be happy even with a small thing :P
Learn to enlarge the happiness from a tiny little thing really make me feel good, so i had decided to practice it more.
