Simple way to cook Asam Laksa

Pass few days, i was craving for Asam Laksa and thought it may worth a try to cook the Asam Fish using the instant asam fish souce that i bought from Malaysia, the Mak Nyonya brand. I first fried the fish fillet, then pour the paste with water and stir it lightly. Then i put in some tomatoes and red onion, but too bad i cant find the mint leaf. Anyway, i was so glad that the taste turn out to be very similar to the asam laksa soup, thanks to the advance food tech, haha...
Asam Fish -loved it!

Best Mee Udang in Sg Dua

I stay in Sg Dua where it is famous for Mee Udang (Prawn noddles). There are many mee udang restaurants in Sg Dua and I had tried at least 4 of them. This one at Aur Gading is the best according to me, my husband and some others who i had introduced to. As a regular customer, i know the chef and the boss very well. I asked the chef before what are the secrets behind her delicious mee udang. She said that the keys were the special chilies they make themselves and also the fresh prawn head. They fried the fresh prawn head and then grind it to get the stock for the soups. Not only that, they also put a lot of potatoes in the soup and cook for long hours. No wonder it tasted so good!
Next time if you visit me, be my guest!

Nice Dim Sum at Shelaiton Auto City

Yesterday my hubby brought us to eat Dim Sum at the Chinese Restaurant- Shelaiton, in Auto City, Juru. The restaurant is famous for its fine dining, especially a popular venue for wedding dinner. He heard from his friend that they served delicious Dim Sum as well, so we give it a tried. I gave it a 8 out of 10, being 10 the best. I particularly like the Tan Tat (or egg tart) and the Siu Mai. The egg tart has a creamy, smooth filling with crispy crust and it is not too sweet, just nice. I really like it very much! Never tasted such a great egg tart before :)
Most of their steam dumpling are also fresh and delicious except the prawn dumpling, the Ha Kao. It has tick skin, not like the one i tried in Hong Kong before where the skin was "melt in the mouth"! I was not a fan of fish ball but this one that the restaurant served is really good. Don't know what ingredient they used to make the fish ball as it created the savory taste and the smooth texture.
Well, if you like Dim Sum too, do pay a visit to Shelaiton Restaurant at Autocity, Juru.
My favorite dish, Tan Tat

Recipe to make chicken breast meat tender

Over the weekend, I try new recipe. As we all know, chicken breast is a more healthier part of the meat but often it doesn't taste as good and tender as the wings or drumstick. This recipe from my mom can make the meat soft and tender. First of all, cut the chicken breast into small slices. Then put some soya sauce, pepper, sugar, sesame oil, corn flour and mixed it together. Seasoned it for a few minutes. Fried it with some hot cooking oil in the pan until it is cooked. My mom also put fried potatoes to cook with it in the tomato sauce but i modified the ingredient. Instead of potatoes, I boiled some broccoli first and them fried it with the meat together with some capsicum. Here is how the final product looks like. The meat taste really good and tender. We may try it out!

Lazy cooking Recipe

I must admit that i am a lazy cook. I like something that is easy to prepare, easy to cook, take shortest time but taste good too! So i was thrilled when i get to know this recipe from my mother. Basically, you just need to mixed ëverything you like in the boiling water, wait until it is cooked then pour in some corn flour to make the soup a bit sticky and stir 2 eggs into it. Oh ya, btw, the roasted pork is needed to make the soup a bit sweet and salty. Without it, the taste will not be good at all. To make the dish more healthy, i choose to put in many vegetables like cabbage and lettuce; olyster mushroom and golden needle mushroom. Then i also put some pork meat balls, sausage and crabstick. The sequence to put in all the raw ingredient is => Rosted pork, pork meat balls =>cook for a while then put in sausages=> vege and mushroom=> crabstick => corn flour=>egg.
It taste much more better than its look! Trust me :-)

Home cook recipes- Shark's fish with beancurd paste

Over the weekend, I cooked for my family. Learn this recipe from my mother-in-law and decided to give it a try. The taste was not bad but of course not as delicious as the originator. I put too much beancurd paste and it became too salty, will improve it next time :)

Ingredient:
  • Beancur paste (2 spoon)
  • Shark's fish ( 20 small slices, refer to the picture below)
  • Ginger
  • Some Garlic
Method:
  • First, of course wash the fish and make sure the skin is been taken off.
  • Next, cut some garlic and ginger
  • Pour the oil to the hot pan
  • Wait for 20 second or so, then fry the garlic and ginger
  • After the garlic is a bit brown color, put the paste in and pour 1.5 cups of water.
  • Let the water boiled, then only put in the fish. (the water is important so that your fish won't become tiny little peices)
  • Cook for, erhm,,i dont really notice how long it tooks but you can just taste the fish and if it is cook, it is done! :)
Very easy isn't it? and it taste good too :)

A bit regreted that I didn't recorded down the recipes. Anyway, it still taste yummy! :-) If you would like to try it, just visit me at my house this coming Chinese New Year! :)

NO more visit to "Tar Chang Jing"

Yesterday me and JJ went to our favorite "Tar Chang Jing" Korean restaurant at Autocity for dinner after our movie - The Proposal.
When we first walk in, there is no customers inside at all. We sit down at our usual seat and here come the fat, ugly lady to serve us. Not friendly at all and ask us to speak Malay to her only waitress in the restaurant, weird isn't it?

Anyway, we wait for a few minutes and the food come. Oh my goodnes, why the dishes shrink to half the size of what we usually have? and once again the ugly lady took the wrong order, we want tuna kimchi chigae but she gave us pork...the last time we came, she also made the same stupid mistake..damn it! We ask her for the change and she feel a bit reluctant to but we insist. I asked why the dish become so small size and u know what she told us? SHe say oh..this is the right size, last time is wrong....oh...come on! I had been to that restaurant for more than 1 years ago and i always order the same thing and the dish is used to be not this size....how can she think that she can just convince customer like that? Somemore she just leaving us after throwing out that stupid explaination...ha...

What's more, i think the food taste sucks, totally different from what we use to taste, so we guess the chef must have been changed. We quickly finished the dinner as it is quite warm there, i guess they dont turn on most of the air cond as there is only us and the other customer in such a big restaurant..We asked for the bill and notice another thing, now they charge RM3.9 for the green tea, last time they use to give is free and free flow too..really not worth it...

Well, the conclusion it, no more visit to "Tar Chang Jing" anymore for us :)

Found new restaurant for good food :)

Today my colleague bring us to his favorite place for lunch. It is called Hot Bowl, at lorong abu siti. We ordered quite a number of foods and it all taste good, but the best is its "steam chicken"- "Pat zam gai". The chicken is so soft and taste good. The second most famous dish, i guess is the white Curry Mee. Really lemak and it has a good smell too. Putting in some chilis make it more spicy and less coconut milk taste.
Next is the steam Otak-otak. It melts in your mouth with a little spicy and curry leaf taste. It was really good :)
However the "tu kar chor" is not the best i had tried before. I think it has not enough ginger taste and the meat is not as soft. Maybe i will give it 3 stars. (5 stars is the full mark).
Also the "chai bui" is so so only, not the best that i had tried.
Anyway, overall i gave it 4.5stars and i will strongly recomend this restaurant to my friends :)

Home cooked Hokkien Mee..

Well, don't be surprised, the home-cooked Hokkien Mee wasn't cook by me of course, but was cooked by my sister-in-law. It was really delicious and we can add small prawn, "char siou", kangkong, eggs and crispy fried onion, whatever we like and how many we like...hahaha...so yummy! But tomorrow i got to go gym and work-out a little bit more, else the fat and cholesterol will stay in my body :(
It is sad that delicious food are always not so healthy, but we can't resist those good food isn't it? So, it leave us no choice but to exercise more and keep a balance diet, like for example, put more Kangkong and bean sprout while eating Hokkien Mee :)

That day a friend who was a foodtech and worked in a food processing company before told me that the Luncheon meat uses the lowest quality meat to process it and they add in a lot of coloring and flavoring to make it delicious....I like luncheon meat very much but of course i dont always eat it, now after hearing what she said, maybe i should totally ban it. Also she advise me to eat less fish ball because in the processing of fish ball, the supplier add a type of chemical that use to melt the fish bone so that it can mixed well with the fish meat...and of course again, those fish are bad quality fish that can't sell in the fresh markets.

GL's Special Recipes

Today is not my gym's day, so i decided to cook for my hubby. It was my first time cooking the "mushroom chicken". I just got the rough idea on how i want it to be but i guess no harm trying. I prepared the chicken and mushroom by marinated it with pepper, light soy sauce and dark soy sauce. I also added some dried small prawn to mixed with the mushroom.
I started by putting in some small slices of gingers into the hot oils, cook until it turn to golden black color, then put in the marinated mushrooms and cook for a while. After that, put in the marinated chicken as well as pour in a cup of water. (don't ask me how much water to pour in, just use your instinct...come on, cooking is an art :))
Let it boiled for about 5 min then put in the cabbage. ( i dunno why i use cabbage but i just like it and also i want to make the dish more healthy)
After that u can just leave the whole thing for about 10 min in a low heat until you confirm that the chicken was fully cooked. The dish looks like below and it taste terrific....at least my hubby and I think so :)
